Frequently Asked Questions
Last Updated: January 31, 2025
What do I get with a subscription?
Right now, two main things: access to our archive of past puzzles (dating back to November 1st—we may add more later) and early access to new games before they go live to everyone else. The daily puzzles stay free forever.
Plus, you're supporting a tiny indie puzzle site that pays actual human designers to craft puzzles by hand. Real people making stuff they're proud of and getting paid for.
Do weekend puzzles disappear on Monday?
Not if you're a subscriber. With archive access, you can keep chipping away at Saturday's brain-melter for as long as it takes. No pressure, no timer, no losing access just because it's Tuesday now.
Monthly or yearly - what's the difference?
Same features either way. Monthly renews every month, yearly renews once a year and saves you money. Pick whatever works for your brain and budget.
Does it auto-renew?
Yep. We'll charge you again at the end of each cycle unless you cancel. No surprises, no tricks—it just keeps going until you tell it to stop.
What if I cancel?
You keep full access until the end of whatever cycle you paid for. Cancel on day 2 of your monthly sub? You've still got 28 days of archive access.
How far back does the archive go?
November 1st for now. We might add earlier puzzles down the road, but can't promise anything yet.
What does "early access to new games" mean?
When we launch a new puzzle type, subscribers get to play it first—sometimes weeks before everyone else. Think of it as being a founding player.
Are you adding more features?
Yes. We're working on quality-of-life stuff like playing puzzles multiple times and tracking your solve times, pencil marks for working through tricky logic, and other tools serious solvers have been asking for. Those will likely be subscriber-only features.
What about merch? Can I return it if something's wrong?
Reach out to us directly if you ever have an issue with merch. We don't have a formal returns process, but we'll make it right.
Why don't you have multiple puzzles a day?
Because we're not trying to keep you here forever. We want Inkwell to be a healthy daily ritual - something you look forward to, solve, feel good about, and then go live your life. The "just one more" infinite content treadmill isn't our thing. A few thoughtfully designed puzzles a day are plenty. Quality over quantity, always.
Do you have an iOS or Android app?
Not yet, but we're listening. If a native app would make your life better, email us and let us know—it helps us prioritize what to build next. In the meantime, there's a neat workaround: you can save Inkwell directly to your home screen and it works almost exactly like an app. Here's how to do it.
How do I put Inkwell on my device's home screen?
Takes about 30 seconds. We wrote up the exact steps for both iPhone and Android. Once it's there, it opens just like an app - no browser bars, no distractions. right here.
Do your puzzles have multiple solutions?
No. Every puzzle has exactly one solution. If you find two, one of them is wrong (or our internal testing tools are broken — let us know if it's the latter).
Did you invent these games?
No. Stars was invented by Hans Eendebak in 2003 for the World Puzzle Championships (it's a thing!) and goes by many other names including Star Battle, Queens, and Two No Touch. Fields was created around 2014 and is also known as Light and Shadow. We loved these games and wanted to bring them to a much wider audience - with better onboarding, beginner level puzzles, and a daily ritual format.
I have an idea for Inkwell!
That's not a question, but we'll allow it. We love hearing from players - whether it's a feature request, a wild puzzle concept, or just something that's bugging you. Send us a message and we'll read it and respond to you. Seriously.
